Twitter has finally come up with its two factor authentication process following suit of other industry leaders such as Google and Microsoft. This means that users can get a stronger level of security for their accounts than just a flimsy username and password.
Twitter has introduced its two factor authentication in a way where users have the option of choosing whether to enable it or not. Enabling the 2FA will require users to enter a 6 digit pin which shall be messaged to their mobile phones each time they log in. This authentication procedure seems to be the ideal option for enhancing the celebrities who have given to Twitter in a big way.
However, despite of all its advantages, the 2FA does not have immense benefits in terms of news companies and media organizations wherein multiple journalists share the same accounts. In such a case, it would be impossible for them to share a single mobile number to receive the pin or coordinate with the executive having the registered mobile number each time they wish to log in.
To help solve this problem, Twitter had come up with an intermediary solution for the media enterprises. It involves the creation of an intermediary which acts like a proxy and journalists can share and submit reports from there which in turn goes on to the actual agency account.
This two factor authorization has also been poorly received by corporate companies and organizations as their employees are extremely prone to getting phished which could lead to the release of false claims on company twitter accounts and can have an extremely negative impact on the image of the company.
However, Twitter promises continue to improve on its security and come up with a solution which is favourable sorts of users. There are rumours that Twitter may copy the protocols being used by Facebook where multiple users share a single company account and log in at different admin levels using different usernames and passwords.
