What Is Proxy

What a proxy server is? Let’s find out:

The article will explain what actually proxy server is and how it works? There are certain things that one needs to understand and all the pertinent terms are stated below.

Http Headers:

Internet itself is a huge world and people from all over the world are somehow connected to it. What we all need to understand is that what actually happens when you go to a website. For example we visit yahoo.com. Following are the things that happen.

  1. Server IP immediately translates the domain name. The domain name system is used to address that host and it is also known as DNS.
  2. The browser that you are currently using sends a Http header to yahoo.com after connecting. The header contains your IP address, your browser and Os information plus an Http request.
  3. Header contains the address and now after all this yahoo.com can send back its homepage.
  4. If you have understood the above things, you must have got a basic idea of what a header is?

Proxy servers:

A proxy server allows you to connect and send back the page. It sends Http request as well. Following is a proxy server in action.
Let’s imagine I have configured my own browser to now use a proxy server. So, when I type Google.com it does the following things.

  1. It resolves the name Google.com in the IP and moreover addy of the server Google.com is hosted on.
  2. After that my browser automatically connects to the proxy server and sends Http request.
  3. The proxy server looks at the request. It now sees that I want to connect to Google.com, so this time around it sends a new request to Google.com including the IP addy is sent.
  4. The proxy server sends back to me Google.com
  5. Basically proxy works as a middle man and therefore is very important.
