Recent cyberattacks have everyone on guard and accusing one another of espionage, including China. In recent news report, the Chinese government called for more cooperation and new rules related to Internet espionage. The Chinese government has also insisted that they were not responsible for recent Internet cyberattacks against the U.S.
American intelligence officials suggested after a thorough investigation that a large percentage of cyberattacks on U.S. agencies. Organizations, corporations and government agencies originated from Chinese hacking groups, in particular from groups known as the “Shanghai Group.”
This information resulted from a detailed study by U.S. agents and computer security firms.
China Fights Back
The Chinese embassy however, has contacted the U.S. and insists that they are not responsible for cyberattacks against the U.S., and has no part in hacking. The Chinese government has further insisted that in their country hacking is illegal and is not tolerated. The Chinese stated that their government is also a victim of computer hacking, and is taking measures to investigate hacking like the U.S. to come up with a common culprit.
The American Intelligence agency also identified other cyberattackers, and the Chinese government states that accusing the Chinese government as the primary culprit was at best poorly done and not professional.
While the Chinese suggest that governments work together to determine the cause of cyberattacks, U.S. officials insist that there is more evidence pointing to Chinese agents involved in cyberattacks. There are some agencies in Canada suggesting there is data that provides evidence pointing to China being involved in multinational cyberattacks and hacking against various agencies and countries.
Protection From Cyberattacks
The U.S. plans to step up security to defend itself from cyberattacks of all forms. It will do this by gathering information about digital signatures from the largest groups of cyberattackers. The Comment Crew has also been indicated as a culprit in many cyberattacks against the government and American corporations.
Government officials suggest that repeated attacks may threaten the relationship the U.S. has with Beijing. The U.S. plans to implement cyberwarriors in an attempt to resolve the issues with regard to cyberattacks, to enable officials to defend computer information within the U.S. Officials are most concerned about hackers attempts to not simply gain information, but the ability to manipulate the infrastructure of U.S. databases, including power grids or utility databases.
U.S. agents are currently weighing the cost of doing business and the impact hacking has with regard to foreign relationships in China.
